FreeFrame: HDMI Camera Monitor · GRISTONE IT SRL · Updated 1 October 2026
Privacy policy
FreeFrame shows the picture and sound from your camera's HDMI output on your phone or tablet. Everything is processed on your device. FreeFrame has no accounts, no ads and no analytics, and we do not collect, store or share any of your personal data.
Camera permission
Android treats a USB video capture card as a camera, so FreeFrame needs the camera permission to show the card's picture. FreeFrame does not use your phone's own cameras. The video is processed in real time on your device and is never recorded, stored or sent anywhere, except for still frames that you choose to save yourself (see "Frame grabs and LUT files").
Microphone permission
The HDMI audio from the capture card arrives as a USB audio input, which Android treats as a microphone. FreeFrame only reads it while you have the audio meters or headphone monitoring turned on, to show levels and, if you choose, play the sound on your headphones. The audio is never recorded, stored or sent anywhere.
Frame grabs and LUT files
- When you tap GRAB, the current frame is saved as a picture in your device's gallery (Pictures/FreeFrame). It stays on your device unless you share it yourself.
- LUT files you import are copied into FreeFrame's private storage on your device.
- Your settings are stored on your device. If you use Android's backup, the system may include FreeFrame's settings and imported LUTs in your device backup, under your Google account settings.
Tips
FreeFrame is free, and every feature stays free. If you choose to leave a tip, the payment is handled entirely by Google Play. We never see your payment details. Google's Privacy Policy and the Google Play Terms of Service apply to that payment. The Google Play Billing component in the app may exchange technical information with Google to process purchases.
Internet
FreeFrame itself does not send any data over the internet. Network access in the app is used only by the Google Play Billing component for tips.
Children
FreeFrame is a tool for camera users and is not directed at children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date.
